Glenda D. Shaw
Hi this is Glenda, giving you a snapshot of my life. I’ve lived in three countries, eight cities, and thirty-households, and through all of these moves I learned about friendship—what it is, what it means, and how to be a better friend. I arrived in the U.S. for a holiday with a film and drama degree in hand, and decided to stay to learn how to write screenplays… and never left.
In my 25 years of working in talk television production, I talked to thousands of people, guests on my shows in LA and New York—including The Montel Williams Show, Rolonda. And I talked to lots more guests when I produced a three-hour live morning talk show for Greenstone Media, the first all-female talk radio network in the U.S. Through all these interviews I realized that people with close confidantes had happier, healthier lives.
That’s why I decided to dive deep into friendship, and focus on writing Better You, Better Friends: A Whole New Approach to Friendship, which will be released in September, 2021. I explore how to resolve the challenges friends face with each other, and offer a fresh perspective from my own life, as well as interviewing academics who have done friendship–related studies in a variety of disciplines—psychology, neuroscience, communication.

Growing up in a family of six, where I spent more time at my family’s catering business than my own home, I quickly learned the joys of chaos. However, this meant from a very early age it was imperative to have lots of friends so I had lots of houses to which I could escape. Through high school, college, grad school, and all the jobs in between, I grew my network. With each friend came a new story, helping shape me into the writer I am today. Most recently, in further pursuit of becoming a writer, I received my MFA in Dramatic Writing from Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Before then I spent time in Allentown, Pennsylvania where I obtained my BA in Film and Media & Communications. A Connecticut native, who actually loves Connecticut, I am happiest when outdoors either hiking, walking my dog, or my absolute favorite, being in the snow.
